The History of
Tyttenhanger House

There is reference to a Tyttenhanger from the early 1300s originally connected to St. Albans famous Abbey. The estate of Tyttenhanger was granted in 1547 to Thomas Pope the founder of Trinity College Oxford and his property was demolished and replaced with the current Grade One listed house by Sir Henry Blount around 1655 and passed down through the family until being acquired by the current owner in 1973. The property was subject to various changes in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, but essentially remains the same. The south elevation is the main aspect although the house is famed for its long gallery and fine staircase and chapel with examples of classic linen fold panelling.

Tyttenhanger House is a Grade 1 Listed Building. In 1973, it was refurbished by the John S Bonnington Partnership and converted from Residential use to Commercial Offices.
